My Experience with Web Design
Through completing the Web Design assignment, I learned that it’s not that hard to create a website when using tools like square space and weebly that provide you with the resources to get the job done. I was also able to put my knowledge of CRAAP to use in making sure that my webpage not only displayed the information that I wanted to share but also in a way that was aesthetically pleasing and easy on the eyes. I believe that this is one of the most important aspects of creating a web page because people are drawn to easy-to-read and navigate sites so putting an emphasis on the layout of your website to make it appealing to people is a good way to boost your audience’s engagement with the site. This what I kept in mind when making my webpage!
Additionally, I was finally able to figure out how to create an embedded link. Im more of a URL girl myself and I hate having to figure out hyperlinks and embedding but it brought me peace to finally know how to use an embedded link to my advantage when providing site users with links to other resources and information.
Working With Diigo
At first, I was slow-to-adjust to Diigo and I didn’t see the point in using it but over time as I found more interesting articles in my leisure time outside of class related to some things I may want to take about in a YouTube video in the future, I found it very convenient to be able to bookmark and highlight points I wanted to speak on. Also, having it save to the Diigo site for later reference as well as to share your findings in groups that may be interested has become of great use to me in gathering information for videos and figuring out the best way to annotate them.
As far as use in the classroom, I think this is a great tool to use to help classmates get started in finding information they may be able to use to complete their assignments or inspire them to find something similar to share to the group as well.
Tech and Teacher Professional Development
It’s crucial for teachers regardless of age to be able to keep up with the latest technology and programs in order to keep students engaged. After all, younger generations are often the first to adhere to new technology and become accustomed to learning and paying attention to things through those means.
That said, I personally would use websites and podcasts like Cool Cat Teacher to keep up with the latest ways other teachers and instructors are using technology to help keep their kids engaged in class when physically writing, drawing and reading become a challenge for students used to doing everything online.
Cool Cat Teacher is run by Vicki Davis, a computer science teacher, who posts her and her peers’ experiences with integrating technology into the classroom. Davis also has a podcast interviewing experts on what works when doing so and why. This is one of the sites that I bookmarked on Diigo and believe to be an amazing resource for anyone who teaches and struggles with student engagement.
